5No. 14 SPRING 2019Course Director: Dr. Toshiyuki Yamanaka, CEO, Global Dynamics Co., Ltd (This training was organized in the autumn of 2018 for the rst time.)This two-week training course was organized as a chance to upgrade leadership and innovation ability through new approaches to business innovation with the purpose of making of a new breed of management personnel capable of solving the many social challenges faced by developing countries with regards to business practices.Developing countries today are showing remarkable economic growth while they are faced with various social tasks; BIOD was planned for corporate management ofcers who have to deal with such tasks, and helps them via the use of business innovation and learning from the efforts made by Japanese corporations.Participants of this training course could visit not only big corporations but also excellent small and medium-sized enterprises with distinct features such as being business innovators in regional revitalization and innovation through networking among smaller businesses.BIOD has adopted sustainable development goals (SDGs) as a training subject. The UN’s SDGs were adopted in 2015, and under these rules the role of the private sector in developing and developed countries alike is given special importance. They call for attention to be paid to realizing corporate goals, including protability, while at the same time solving social problems through business innovation.This training course regards SDGs as a ‘catalyst’ to encourage changes in the consciousness and behavior of corporate management leaders and thereby lead to the creation of business innovation; for this goal, BIOD adopted a card game, ‘2030 SDGs,’ by Imacocollabo Association, which is a training material linked with SDGs.Introducing the “Business Innovation and Organization Development (BIOD)” courseVenue: Kansai Kenshu Center AOTS Prioritizing Development of New Training CoursesBIOD participants on a field trip to the Ama (Woman Diver) Hut Experience “Hachiman Kamado” by Hyokichiya Ltd., Mie prefecture, a case attracting attention as an excellent regional revitalization projectBIOD participants playing a card game as formal training material. Imacocollabo introduced this training as a case of using their work in its own website.NOTE/ Sustainable development goals (SDGs): Described in ‘2030 Agenda for sustainable development’ adopted by UN Summit in September 2015, SDGs are international goals from 2016 to 2030. They consist of 17 kinds of goals and 169 targets to materialize a sustainable world. (See UNI website https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/)In addition to conventional management training for acquiring management techniques, AOTS has been endeavoring to launch training courses on new subjects to attract more interest of international industries, especially those in emerging economies, by adopting the opinions and requests of various counterparts including AOTS Alumni Societies. My country is not eligible to receive Japanese government subsidies.
