13No. 14 SPRING 2019News from AOTS Alumni Societies●Chattagram AOTS Alumni Society (CAAS)’s 30th Anniversary CeremonyOn the evening of 13 September, this commemorative ceremony for CAAS was held splendidly. At its ceremonial part, they had the presence of Mr. Muhammad Nurul Islam, Honorary Consul General of Japan in Chittagong, who made an address, which was followed by a key note lecture on ‘All Alumni Areas for Potential Cooperation’ by Mr. Man Mohan, President, AOTS Alumni Society, Delhi, and AOTS representative in Yangon, Mr. Kenichiro Eguchi, read a congratulatory message from the Myanmar HIDA (AOTS) Alumni Association. After the ceremony, all attendants enjoyed Bangladeshi dancing and singing with a buffet.On the same day, just before the ceremony, it was arranged for eleven ofcers of CAAS to meet with six entrepreneurs in Chittagong as a policy dialogue. Following presentations on current challenges by district, CAAS ofcers proposed solutions and requested their attention using human resource development schemes by AOTS.On the following day, 14 September, a WNF seminar organized by CAAS was held with Mr. Channa Lalith Weerasekera of Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JASTECA) in Sri Lanka as its resource speaker at a session on ‘Health, Safety & Awareness in Manufacturing Industries & Service Sector’. CAAS has a membership of about 600 at present and it is quite eager to get new members as well. ‘CAAS sent 89 members in total to Japan for undertaking management seminars in the year 2017 – 2018 and it is our wish to maintain such a record in coming years,‘ as one of its ofcers told us. It is highly expected to enhance its activeness and organizational vigor with increasing membership.●Bangladesh AOTS Alumni Society (BAAS) Celebrated its 50th AnniversaryBAAS is an organization of AOTS ex-trainees with a current membership of around 1200 people. For its 50th anniversary ceremony, about 400 members gathered at the Pan Pacic Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka, for a day-long program on 15 September, 2018.At the opening ceremony for the commemorative events, they had special guests including Dr. Mashiur Rahman, Economic Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and other distinguished guests and friends. At the ceremony, they listened to an inaugural message via video from Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Honorable Speaker of the Bangladeshi Parliament, followed by a seminar on quality control by Dr. Katsutoshi Ayano, Professor Emeritus of Tokai University, titled ‘Quality for Peace and Sustainable Development.’In the afternoon BAAS executives made a presentation on their activities and they referred to Bangladesh-Japan Training Institute (BJTI), a training institution established by BAAS in 2010 for subjects including the Japanese way of business management. The Institute could gather over 600 participants in its 39 training courses in 2017, including the WNF program and training courses by dispatched speakers from Japan. BJTI also organizes training courses specically designed for Japanese afliates in the clothing and textile sector in Bangladesh. Since the inception of BJTI 3,000 persons have been trained in different management elds.At the closing ceremony, the guests had the pleasure of addresses by the Honorable Minister of Commerce, Mr. Tofail Ahamed, and Mr. Takeshi Ito, Minister at the Embassy of Japan, in Bangladesh.To Commemorate the event 22 people from the 10 alumni societies of SAFAAS attended, showing the strong unity of the federation in South Asia. Besides, a WNF seminar titled “Program for Solving Human and Organizational Problems” was held on 13-14 September as a part of those commemorative events with 30 attendants who listened to a lecture by Mr. M.
