JOURNAL10Since September 2017, Monster Lab, Inc., an IT company in Matsue, Shimane Pref., has been employing a former intern from Kerala, India. He is one of a number of students/junior engineers who underwent internship at six IT rms in Matsue and Izumo cities as a part of the internship program implemented by AOTS, in January 2017, as a contractor for ‘Executive Committee to Host Indian IT Personnel and to Invite Enterprises in Matsue City.’The San-in region is the birthplace of Dr. Hajime Nakamura, the foremost gure in the study of Indian philosophy in Japan and has been actively looking for exchanges with India. After the San-in-India Association was founded in 2013, the region has exchanged business missions with Indo Japan Chamber of Commerce Kerala, which was established by executive members of the Alumni Society of AOTS Kerala (ASA Kerala), and the San-in region has been promoting economic and cultural exchanges with the state of Kerala.At the same time, ‘Lake Nakaumi, Lake Shinji & Mt. Daisen Area Business Council,’ consisting of commerce and industry organizations of ve cities including Matsue, launched a plan to develop their areas as an ICT industrial cluster to attract more able talent from inside and outside Japan for the diffusion of a programming language called Ruby developed by Mr. Yukihiro Matsumoto from Matsue City. Such a background has led to the signing of a memorandum of understanding on economic exchange between the assembly of mayors of the ve cities and the state government of Kerala as well as Indo Japan Chamber of Commerce Kerala in 2015. The exchange of students between Japan and India is beginning to take greater shape.As desire for exchange was gathering momentum in the San-in region and Kerala, eleven Indian nationals with recommendation of ASA Kerala took part in the internship program in Matsue and Izumo cities. Those interns, including those connected with members of ASA Kerala, showed great interest in Japan and interacted with their Japanese counterparts from the very rst day of their arrival in the region, in spite of the record heavy snow that welcomed them. Paul Joe George, who gained employment this time, has been working in Matsue now for three months and is developing web applications in Ruby programming language.AOTS wishes to support economic vitalization of various municipalities in Japan through internationalization by taking advantage of its knowhow to live together beyond barriers of cultures accumulated over the years as well as exclusive network of its alumni associations in many countries.Paul Joe George working at Shimane development site of Monster Lab, Inc. NEWSAOTS exchanged a memorandum of understanding on coop-eration related to industrial human resource development and economic exchange with the Federation of the International Management Council of Taiwan on November 4, 2017. The MOU was signed by Mr. Shinya Kuwayama, president of AOTS, and Mr. Chen Yuan, president of IMC, in front of more than 600 participants at the annual meeting of IMC, which took place on the same day in Changhua County, Taiwan.This MOU is aimed at the promotion of joint operations by utilizing the respective organizations’ systems and expertise to contribute to sustainable growth on both sides by putting forward technical and management capabilities of Taiwanese industries in the context of mutual economic progress and enhanced friendship between Japan and Taiwan through industrial human resource development and economic exchanges. At IMC, Mr. Hsieh Chun Hsiang, senior adviser, is an AOTS alumnus (1962 and 1967) and has already started to plan overseas training of Carbon Reduction Technology Promotion Programs in Taiwan. Even though our exchange with Taiwan in the eld of human resource develop-ment has stagnated since 1972, it is expected to revitalize our bilateral relations by the use of new scheme.■IMC was established in 1961 as an assembly of business proprietors.
