Now we are celebrating beginning of another year. With the Tokyo Olympic Games only three years away; Japan has welcomed over twenty million over-seas tourists last year. Now I feel Japan is attracting more attention from around the world. The preparations are smoothly progressing, with public transport services switching to multilingual signage, along with an increasing number of restaurants providing religion conscious menu. For over a half century, HIDA has offered our clients a range of human resource development programs such as Training Program in Japan, Overseas Training, Expert Dispatch, Intern Dispatch and so forth. Due to the aforementioned rise in general interests in Japan; our work has attracted more attentions in recent years. In the rapidly globalizing world economy, many countries believe human resource development to be the foundation of building a good country. Against this backdrop, HIDA has had many clients lining up for assistance in government or private based human resource development. This is a result of support and assistance granted to HIDA from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan and other Japanese government agencies, as well as overseas governments, parties from respective industries, academia and local communities. I would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to them.It is HIDA’s mission to contribute to mutual economic development in Japan and respective over-seas countries through human resource development programs, so as to promote friendship between the countries. The HIDA-AOTS Alumni Societies, can be found in 71 regions 43 countries across the world, play an important role in promotion of friendship. Under HIDA/AOTS programs, almost 380,000 people have undergone training with us. Those training graduates went home after completion of their programs, voluntarily formed own alumni society and engaged in many activities to promote Japanese language and Japanese corporate culture, thus becoming bridge that connects their country and Japan. With the aim to commend their alumni society activities, HIDA created a new scheme last year, in which their leaders are appointed “Monodzukuri Jinzai Ambassadors.” This issue has an article introducing the background of this new scheme, along with a report of the appointment ceremonies. We hope to hear more news about achievements by our alumni societies. In coming year, HIDA will continue to provide our human resource development programs while utilizing our global human network, as well as expanding our service range through HIDA Research Institute and New Global Cooperation Program. We will be ever so grateful to receive your continuing support and encouragement.New Year’s MessageMr. Shinya Kuwayama, President
