Our company has built up a network related to our thermal power business in India at three sites in Gurgaon (adjacent to New Delhi), Chennai, and Hyderabad. The TJPS Gurgaon Office handles engineering activities, while the TJPS Chennai Plant manufactures steam turbines and generators for thermal power plants, and TPSC (India) Pvt. Ltd. in Hyderabad installs power plant machinery. Coordinating with each other, TJPS and TPSC (India) supply and install thermal power plants in India. There is a strong rise in demand for electricity in India backed by its high economic growth rate. At one time, the majority of thermal power generated in India consisted of subcritical* coal-red thermal power. The first order our company received in the Indian market was for two 500 megawatt (MW) subcritical steam turbine generators for the Anpara Thermal Power Station of Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL), which went into operation in 1994. Moreover, in 2007 we received an order for five 800 MW supercritical* steam turbine generators for Mundra Thermal Power Station (Gujarat). The order came from Tata Power, which is India’s largest private power company, as an Ultra Mega Power Project, in which the Indian government builds power plants through injections of private capital. These were sequentially entered into operation from 2012 to 2013. Thereafter, TJPS received orders for a total of seven supercritical steam turbine power generators. These included three 800 MW generators for Kudgi Super Thermal Power Station (Karnataka) ordered by India’s National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) and two 660 MW generators for Meja Super Thermal Power Station (Uttar Pradesh) ordered by Meja URJA NIGAM Pvt. Ltd. in 2012, as well as two 800 MW generators for Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station (Orissa) ordered by NTPC in 2014. The expectation is that supercritical coal-fired power will become mainstream in the future because it has higher power generating efficiency relative to subcritical coal-fired power, which will lead to reducing the environmental impact. Toshiba Corporation Power Systems Company has established Toshiba JSW Power Systems Pvt. Ltd. (TJPS) in 2014 as an integrated company for sales, engineering, design, procurement, manufacturing, construction and services. TJPS was formed through a merger of Toshiba JSW Turbine & Generator Pvt. Ltd., a company that manufactures and sells generating turbines and generators with the thermal power engineering division of Toshiba India Pvt. Ltd. They are aiming to strengthen this integrated structure and strive for business development in an industry where companies fiercely compete for improvements of 0.1% in generation efciency. India and other newly emerging countries have been demonstrating rising demand for infrastructure in the energy sector as a result of their rapid urbanization and economic growth. HIDA has been carrying out the Carbon Reduction Technology Promotion Programs since FY2014 in order to export Japanese companies’ outstanding technology to countries throughout the world, including newly emerging countries which are expected to experience this sort of substantial growth in energy demand. It is also designed to develop local human resources to contribute to reducing CO2 and energy conservation measures. We will introduce Toshiba Corporation Power Systems Company, as a case example for the benet of HIDA training in Japan as it has received several orders in India, because of its high-efcient thermal power machines that curb CO2.
