HIDA Journal 2015 AUTUMN No.7
17/18
No.7 AUTUMN 2015 15■One year has already own by since I was appointed at the end of June last year. On behalf of the staff at the Bangkok Of ce, I would like to express my warm gratitude to everyone who has lent their respective support to us on a regular basis. The Bangkok Of ce not only carries out the nationally subsidized and consigned programs implemented by HIDA, but also secretariat programs for the AEM-METI Economic and Industrial Cooperation Committee (AMEICC). We have four Japanese staff members, but I oversee every aspect of these latter programs, and also travel overseas on business trips quite often. As a result, as things currently stand it is considerably difficult for me to keep an eye on all of the office’s affairs. My own personal goal for managing the office is to create an environment in which the employees can handle their work cheerfully and proactively with a sense of unity. My intention is to lend an ear to the opinions of everyone involved and continue working hard in order to achieve this goal in the future. I encourage anyone interested to stop by our of ce if you are ever in Bangkok. (Mr. Nobuyoshi Wakabayashi, Representative)■My name is Yoshitaro Nagoya, and I was appointed as the of ce’s Vice Representative. When I received the unof cial notice that I was to be relocated, I was absolutely astonished. But now that I’m commuting while being jostled by the rush hour crowds in Bangkok as if it were the most natural thing in the world, I feel somewhat impressed by my own exibility. Thinking back on it, when I was dispatched to the Dominican Republic a quarter of a century ago as a Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer (JOCV), I recalled that I had resolved to: (1) Learn about the country I travel to, (2) Understand and grow fond of the people of the country, and (3) Attempt to convey the virtues of the country to Japan. I feel exactly the same way now. I tell myself that I can’t return home until I’ve made my own human connections. Thank you all in advance. (Mr. Yoshitaro Nagoya, Vice Representative)■I am truly indebted to the many Thai and Japanese people in the local region, as well as the many people in the neighboring countries of Myanmar, Vietnam, and so forth. I would like to take this opportunity to express my warmest thanks to everyone. At rst, I was at a complete loss when it came to the customs and culture of Bangkok, which differ from Japan, and just after these had become customary to me I returned home. But I de nitely intend to make use of my experiences from working in a different culture in my work now onward, as well as in my own personal life. (Mr. Shinya Kubota, Former Senior Deputy Representative (Senior Manager of the Research & Project Planning Group))News from Overseas Of ces – Bangkok Of ce This year, at the New Delhi Of ce we began an initiative to support skills development in the Neemrana region of Rajasthan. In April we concluded a memorandum of cooperation in the area of industrial HR development with RIICO, and plan to dispatch Japanese experts in September for tasks like assisting with curriculum development in cooperation with the Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), which is establishing a vocational training facility in this region. I assumed the position of Representative on July 1, replacing Mr. Mitani. We will continue to forge ahead with industrial HR News from Overseas Of ces – New Delhi Of ce Selamat siang. For this issue I would like to introduce the HIDA/AOTS Alumni Societies of Indonesia. There are currently alumni societies in three local regions: Jakarta, Central Java (Semarang), and Medan. Each of these independently carries out activities such as seminars for disseminating Japanese-style onsite improvements, the 5Ss, and more. When I see them independently going about spreading Japanese-style production activities in their local regions, I really get the feeling that effective production activities are borderless. Not only that, but it allows me to catch a glimpse of a small part of the results of the programs and activities HIDA has carried out to date. (Mr. Takuya Shimura, Representative)News from Overseas Of ces – Jakarta Of ce development in India and the countries of South Asia, for which I would like to ask for your continued support. (Mr. Akira Kuriyama, Representative)Noti cation on Our Plan to Open the Yangon Of ceHIDA is planning to establish the Yangon Of ce in autumn 2015 in order to strengthen its support for local industrial HR development, given the surge of Japanese companies that have been expanding into Myanmar recently.
