HIDA JOURNAL8 Grand Prize Selection Committee Members:Professor Emeritus, Tokyo University of TechnologyDr. Hiromitsu Muta (Chairman)The First Lady of JapanMrs. Akie Abe Professor, National Graduate Institute for Policy StudiesProf. Izumi Ohno Director, Technical Cooperation Division, Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)Mr. Yuzo Goto Mrs. Akie Abe“Toward creating a better world and peace by allowing Japan and other countries to adopt something good from one another”Being a Japanese national, I am so pleased that the training scheme of Japan has been so widely accepted and highly recognized across the world. I hope that my fellow Japanese will study the virtues of our country once again; meanwhile, our foreign friends will continue to eagerly take in what is good about Japan. Japan should be fair and square with all other countries. We must be aware that there are many things that we can learn from many countries, rather than merely indulging ourselves in the position of teaching others. I wish to create the best community, a better world, and peace through mutual cooperation. Prof. Izumi Ohno“Stimulated by the presenters’ having found the values in Japanese behavior and put them into practice by adding their own creativity”It was a very tough selection process. The reasons for their awards are different. Mr. Camargo (Brazil) established an industry association, which has subsequently become a platform to provide support for Japanese companies’ business development in Brazil. This rippling effect itself is important. Aside from the efforts of Mr. Buddhadasa (Sri Lanka) to lay the foundation for re-building the country soon after the end of the civil war, what struck me was that his model is likely to be reproduced in various forms in the future. I was sympathetic to Mr. Lamba (India), for he explained that a former small local company has grown itself along with its Japanese partners by focusing on the use of the elements that he learnt during his stay in Japan, not only on the front of technology but also in terms of ways of thinking (trust building). I was strongly impressed by the fact that Ms. Boyadjieva (Bulgaria) had broadly engaged in social contribution efforts in the context of HRD, by using her lessons from HIDA training programs, during a paradigm shift of values in the process of marketization. It was enlightening to know that the things Japanese people have taken for granted were in fact of extremely high value; and you have exerted the values of such things better than we have, as well as put them into practice through your creativity. I think that exchanges among us are sure ways to co-create something good. Dr. Hiromitsu Muta (Chairman)“The secrets to success lies in the synergetic effects of HIDA training and the presenters’ efforts.”The common features among the 10 contestants were that, while trying to fulfill their dreams, they gained hints and tips for what they had been pursuing by coming across HIDA training programs; thereby furthering their efforts after returning home to meet their current success. It is my greatest pleasure that a good mix of HIDA training programs and the efforts made by all those who are present has led to the development of individuals, companies, groups, and communities. I wish the Japanese government, along with HIDA, to keep engaged in the development of human resources. Today’s presentations made me keenly aware that the basics of success lie in each individual’s dreams and unflinching determination. Mr. Yuzo Goto (as a Closing Address)“Future calls for joint initiatives in value creation and problem solving by leveraging our relationship of 55 years”The presentations introduced the cases of the speakers’ active use of what they learnt in Japan resulting in creating an industry association, sharing knowledge by authoring books, as well as solving social problems. I was able to realize the extent of the spread of HIDA initiatives in the world. The relationship and network between you and Japan has been built through 55 years of HIDA projects in various forms. I think, while maintaining the bonds between us, our joint initiatives shall enter another phase to create new business and values as well as to address unsolved problems. The Japanese government is willing to endorse such initiatives. Lastly, I pray that today’s event will further strengthen our relationship with you.We introduced the prize-winning stories on the previous page, but the presentations were all so outstanding that it would not have been a surprise to have any of the presenters win. Here we will introduce excerpts of comments from the grand prize selection committee members as a summary of the Success Story Contest.Aside from the grand prize winners we have introduced thus far, there were numerous outstanding success stories among the applicants. We have grouped these into several different types, and will now introduce them below. Introduction of other success stories Dr. AKM Moazzem Hussain, Bangladesh AOTS-HIDA Alumni Society (BAAS) Honorary Adviser, giving a speech on behalf of the Success Story Contest applicants Comments from the members of the grand prize selection committee
