What the presenters all share in common is the fact that they studied through HIDA training and were motivated to take action of their own accord after returning home to their own countries. We are greatly looking forward to the presentations on a broad range of themes such as entrepreneurs, diversifying and expanding one’s company’s businesses, the prosperity and growth of overseas corporations held by Japanese companies, the establishment of industry organizations, the social rehabilitation of and support for starting companies by former guerilla fighters who have fought in conflicts, and more.2. Theme Discussions (October 30) - Connect and Create -Backed by factors like the further progress made in the globalization of the economy, the tremendous economic growth in newly emerging countries, and the changing environment for international cooperation brought about by ODA, there is a demand for innovative ideas that will give rise to new projects, activities, and added value the likes of which have never been seen before the world over. This convention of alumni society representatives brings together more than 200 members of alumni societies—which have voluntarily formed and have actively been deploying a broad range of activities over many years with their primary focus being on contributing to society in their respective countries against such a backdrop—from more than 30 countries to hold discussions. The presentiment is that a great many diverse opinions will be exchanged and new initiatives will be born.Against this backdrop, on the second day of the convention alumni society members and HIDA staff, along with Japanese officials who have lent their cooperation for HIDA programs and members of the Japanese public who have taken an interest in HIDA programs, will come together to hold Theme Discussions. At the meetings they will discuss shared themes for creating new value from the following four approaches. Group A will discuss and give shape to possibilities for cooperative projects, such as creating business opportunities that are based on the relationships of trust formed between the alumni societies and HIDA thus far. Group B will aim to create new value through co-creation partnerships. Here, the discussion will proceed by defining co-creation partnerships as relationships in which countries go about solving commonly shared challenges through bilateral cooperation. Group C will discuss the World Network of Friendship (WNF). The WNF is an activity unlike anything seen before for South-South Cooperation through the self-help efforts of and bilateral support between developing countries that the HIDA/AOTS alumni societies are advocating for themselves. The group will discuss modalities for collecting contributions to serve as capital for more effective publicity and activities in the aim of jump-starting the WNF. Group D will discuss what sorts of planning, development, and project formation can be carried out in response to the industrial human resource development needs of each country in light of the characteristics and limitations of HIDA’s various schemes. Our aim is to not have the talks at the various groups end there on the spot, but rather to sequentially put the conclusions agreed upon into practice following the convention and lead to the deployment of new activities in every direction and the creation of value.
