HIDA JOURNAL14Overview of the 9th World Convention of HIDA/AOTS Alumni Societies“Communicate, Connect, and Create”Foresights of HIDA’s global network created through HRD ~ Co-creating new values for a new generation ~ This coming October 29 and 30 the 9th World Convention of HIDA/AOTS Alumni Societies (hereafter referred to as the convention) will be held, with Iino Hall in Kasumigaseki, Tokyo serving as its main venue. The alumni societies are organizations that were formed by returned trainees from the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS), which was one of the predecessors to HIDA, in regions all around the world. As a general rule, this convention is held once every four years with the following two primary goals. The first is deepening ties between peers and colleagues who belong to the alumni societies, while the second is promoting face-to-face reciprocal exchanges between HIDA and the alumni societies. Through these goals HIDA and the alumni societies work together to plan and carry out activities that contribute to industrial human resource development in developing countries. In order to achieve these goals, members of the alumni societies of each country, including their representatives, who have come together from around the world share their experiences, hold discussions, and offer recommendations over cooperative projects between HIDA and the alumni societies. This is the first convention held since AOTS and the Japan Overseas Development Corporation (JODC) merged to become HIDA. Under the slogan at the top of the page, the alumni societies and HIDA strive to co-create new value.Two-day schedule (planned)Wednesday, October 29Thursday, October 30VenueAMInaugural Session•Address by the Representative of HIDA•Addresses by the Guests of Honor •Address by the Representative of the Alumni Societies General Assembly•Approval of theme and chairperson of each discussion group •Report from HIDA•Group Photo SessionTheme DiscussionsAPartnership with the HIDA Research Institute (HRI) and the Global Interface Japan (GIJ) initiativesBCo-development and co-creation: new values resulting from and successful models developed by partnership between the alumni societies and HIDACIntroduction to and future development of World Network of Friendship (WNF) programs---a South-South cooperative framework promoted by the alumni societiesDPartnership between the alumni societies and HIDA for industrial human resources development (i-HRD)Iino HallLunchLunchPMHIDA Success Story Contest •Address by the Representative of HIDA•Presentation of Success Story •Introduction of Members of Alumni Societies who submitted their Stories•Announcement of the Result, •Closing Address Closing General Assembly •Reports of the outcome of the Theme discussions by groups •Presentation of Resolution of Convention •Address by the Representative of the Alumni Societies •Address by the Representative of HIDA Move to reception venue (bus / walk)Move to the HIDA Tokyo Kenshu Center (TKC) (bus)(move) EveningReceptionFarewell Party29th: Dai-Ichi Hotel Tokyo30th: TKC1. Success Story Contest (Afternoon of October 29) - Communicate -Successful case examples of activities were solicited from returned trainees who took part in training programs in Japan, as well as from people in local companies and organizations that have made use of the training programs or expert dispatch program, in order to share the results of the industrial human resource development programs that HIDA has carried out. These successful case examples of activities are case examples in which people have used the knowledge and experience gained from the instruction in the training or from experts to achieve outstanding success in their workplace or local community that has contributed to the economy and society in their country or region. Having the actual people or people from companies or organizations that have achieved results by taking advantage of the training in Japan tell their stories directly makes even more of the returned trainees and other people involved aware of the results of these programs. In addition, the hope is that sharing successful personal experiences will elicit a positive chain reaction of other successes. In the period of a little under three months from the start of the solicitation until the application cut-off date, we received applications from more than 280 former HIDA trainees in 48 countries. Ten submitters of excellent case examples were selected from among these and will be invited to Japan to present their cases. The ten people scheduled to present have a wide array of nationalities, including people from Brazil, Bulgaria, India, Pakistan, the Philippines,
