HIDA Journal No. 2 ● SPRING 20132Human resource development of HIDATechnical TrainingDeveloping local resources is a big challenge for companies expanding business overseas. In particular, it is critical for these companies to develop core human resources who understand the vision of headquarters in Japan so that they can further adjust business management in line with local needs. HIDA’s technical training robustly supports such companies. Our technical training invites trainees to Japan, enabling them to obtain specific skills for manufacturing technology or other areas. This training is unique in that it begins with introductory training, named a “general orientation course.” The general orientation course enables trainees to learn about Japanese culture and society, making it easier for them to understand the Japanese manufacturing philosophy with a strong emphasis on quality. It also offers trainees an opportunity to learn Japanese, facilitating their communication with Japanese employees. Thus, this training has been utilized by many companies expanding their business overseas. In particular, training for core human resources required to newly start global operations or manufacture new products is quite effective in successfully implementing operations.Through this edition of HIDA Journal, we report on two companies who utilize HIDA’s technical training for the above purposes.General Orientation Course (Group training at a HIDA Training Center)Arrive in JapanReturn to home countrySpecialized Technical Training (Individual training at a Japanese company)Participants acquire specialized technical skills based on their individual training planParticipants learn about Japanese language and affairs, cross-cultural understanding, living in Japan, etc.HIDAJapanOnsiteLearn new technologies, etc.Train manager of local companyJapanese company (host company for trainee)Engineer from local company, etc. Investee company, technical tie-up partner, distributor, etc.Company in developing country (company dispatching trainee)Receive introductory training at one of HIDA Training Centers (Japanese language and Japanese culture / society)Learn about unique technology at Japanese companyOur company, headquartered in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefec-ture, manufactures lighting products including halogen lamps.
