HIDA Journal No. 1 ● AUTUMN 2012The Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) and Japan Overseas Development Corporation (JODC) have joined hands on this occasion and taken a new step forward as The Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association (HIDA).Through this merger, the two organizations have further expanded the human networks that they have built up thus far within and outside Japan. They have also combined their know-how on structuring training programs and experts dispatch programs. Through these efforts, I believe we have established a system that can provide comprehensive support for domestic and overseas industries, as well as for the development of human resources. The recent advancement in economic globalization has brought about a rise in mutual dependency between countries in the international community. Emerging countries, particularly in Asia, have also shown significant growth. Under such conditions, industries in Japan are also beginning to intensify their own overseas expansion efforts. We see this merger as the ideal opportunity for development, and aim to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of private sector-based technological cooperation that takes Japan's new growth strategy into consideration. It is also our mission to contribute to the mutual economic development of Japan and other countries around the world, as well as to the promotion of friendly relations between Japan and these countries. We sincerely seek your continued support and encouragement.Message from the Chairman Mototsugu ItoAssociation Overview●NameThe Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development AssociationAbbreviated name: HIDA●EstablishmentAugust 10, 1959●ActivitiesProvides training for industrial human resources mainly in developing countries as well as dispatches experts overseas●Scale of operationsApproximately JPY 9.0 billion (budget for fiscal 2012)1)Training Programs: 420 courses and 7,400 participants2)Experts Dispatch Programs: 150 experts●Total number of Training Programs in Japan: 166,700 (cumulative total as of fiscal 2011) participants/expertsOverseas Training Programs: 190,852 (cumulative total as of fiscal 2011)Experts Dispatch Programs: 7,134 (cumulative total as of fiscal 2011)●Offices1)Japan: Tokyo (Higashi-Ginza and Kitasenju), Yokohama, Kansai (Osaka City), Chubu (Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture) 2)Overseas: Bangkok and Jakarta
