As Myan-mar is rapidly democratizing, the country is expected to see more foreign invest-ment from Japan and other countries. The visit was scheduled in order to establish a network in Myanmar as HIDA anticipates increasing demand for providing human resource development support to Japanese companies that plan to expand to Myan-mar in the near future. President Kaneko paid a courtesy call to Deputy Minister for Commerce H.E. Dr. Pwint San, who participated in an AOTS training program when he was a business person. H.E. Dr. Pwint San commented, "As key players in Myanmar's industries shift from national enterprises to private enterprises, Myanmar's state-owned en-terprises stand to learn a lot from Japanese companies in terms of business reform, production management, and qual-ity control," hinting the Government of Myanmar's expectations for more Japanese companies to expand to the country. In June 2012, a memorandum of under-standing for cooperation of industrial human resources development was signed between HIDA and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Cham-bers of Commerce and Industry (UMF-CCI). UMFCCI will play a supportive role when Japanese companies ex-pand to Myanmar. HIDA would also like to strengthen collaboration with UMFCCI as a partner. President Win Aung also commented "At present, it is im-portant to cultivate human resources in Myanmar includ-ing entrepreneurs, and we would like to ask for HIDA's cooperation."HIDA's future expansion in Myanmar will also rely on local AOTS Alumni Society comprised of human resources from vari-ous industries. HIDA expects the coop-eration of each alumni who attended the gathering on the occasion of President Kaneko's visit.
