15No. 13 AUTUMN 2018In November 2017, Kenshu Kiokay del Peru celebrated its 5S Award Ceremony as part of the activities of the 45th Cultural Week of the Peruvian Japanese Association. On this occasion AOTS supported 5S award ceremony by sending a special lecturer, Mr. Balakrishnann Palaniappan, Director-AFQD, ABK-AOTS Dosokai Tamilnadu Centre, Chennai, India.Mr. Palaniappan was dispatched as a WNF specialist in Kaizen under the WNF Program in order to be the principal lecturer during the ceremony, which was held in the Peruvian Japanese Theater. The presentation was about their experience in the implementation of 5S in Indian companies and what were the challenges they faced for the success of this implementation. The attendees, who exceeded 600 people, were very happy, although they expected to hear more about the cases of 5S implementation and the changes in behavior or culture in the organizations in which they had experienced the implementation. We believe that the time was too short for him. Also, taking advantage of the expert’s visit, Kenshu Kiokay del Peru organized 2 more visits to companies interested in hearing about the 5S implementation experience in India. One of them was ARIS INDUSTRIAL, winner of the 5S Award in previous years, which they visited with the purpose of getting to know the company. On the following day Mr. Palaniappan visited Cooperativa Pacico, an organization interested in disseminating the 5S tool among its partners.“Live Together, Grow Together,” as it creates synergy between people, organization, society and nature, whereas the latter is applied through the process of mobilizing the general public in the campaign. Romania emphasized that, just as in the workplace, 5S practices in public spaces can develop a sense of awareness, for the benet of citizens, municipality governments, public and private business environment, while having the support of mass-media. The host added that, since improvement is readily identiable, the spirit-lifting experience arouses positive feelings on commitment to the community. Past “Public 5S” programs in cities of Romania were also introduced for reference, as this year sees the 9th consecutive year of the event, which has joined together city hall representatives, business people, high-school students, teachers, and NGO members. Since 2011, the programs have gathered 1,500 volunteers (including 12 Mayors and Vice-Mayors) and featured by 19 TV stations. From June 7-8, 2018, the visiting representatives participated in “Kaizen as a Powerful Vector for Society Development” International Conference, held in Alba-Iulia. The two-day event was comprised of reports and presentations by local and Japanese partners, and a one-hour clean up at “George Coșbuc” National College in Cluj-Napoca. Students joined the event, for “Public 5S” has been made part of the school’s curriculum for 4 years in a row. The visiting representatives’ event participation fees were partly nanced by the World Network of Friendship (WNF) scheme, a donation-based platform promoting mutual cooperation between AOTS Alumni Societies.
