11No. 13 AUTUMN 2018The Journal introduces you to the ‘5S-Kaizen and Productivity Enhancement’ course implemented by the Technology Promotion Association (TPA) in Thailand, a related institute of AOTS, by dispatching Thai instructors. Training duration is 3 to 5 days depending on local needs. The training course plans featured a combination of 5S, Kaizen and QC and could be implemented for three to ve days depending on local needs. In each course, the training offered ample time for comprehension of theory through classroom sessions and group work. The picture below shows a training scene from ‘Basic 5S for Productivity,’ a three-day course by Thai instructors, held in Savannakhet, the second largest city in Laos. We were pleased to have a total of 54 attendees, which was more than the planned capacity. Thai instructors teaching Laotian and Cambodian attendeesPreviously AOTS dispatched Japanese instructors to overseas training venues. However, in this course of third–country training planned and executed by AOTS, Thai instructors are being dispatched and we have found various different training effects by using Thai instructors, who are full of useful knowhow for local participants Such differences as how to prepare training materials, color selection of reference materials, the use of video, amusing the participants by using comical video clips, cleverness in picking up a familiar example in daily life as a training topic, instruction by two-way communication by walking around the training room….all these closed the gap between instructors and attendees, something more acceptable for people in the ASEAN region. Training opportunities offered to local cities where there is less chance of training, in addition to capital citiesAs many Japanese afliate companies are operating in local cities near to a border in addition to larger cities, AOTS also organizes training courses outside of capital cities. For example, AOTS organized training sessions in Savannakhet and Pakxe, Lao PDR, and Poipet in Cambodia as non-capital city venues. For scal 2018, AOTS intends to increase training opportunities in local cities; in addition to repeating the training in the above three cities, AOTS plans to organize training courses in Thilawa, Mandalay and Bagan in Myanmar as well as Bavet in Cambodia, a city on the border with Vietnam. The picture below shows training in Poipet, Cambodia, a city on the border with Thailand. AOTS could use a facility at the SANCO Poipet Special Economic Zone established by joint investment of Japan and Cambodia.Introducing Third Country-type Overseas Training Courses Planned and Executed by AOTS as an AMEICC program*As the training took place at a venue inside the premises of an industrial park, the attendees gathered at the training room wearing their uniforms, walking from their work place with textbooks in one hand. A total of 40 attendees were trained.Training in progressImage of training scheme (Third-country type)8 states in ASEAN(exclude Singaopre and Brunei)Eg.)Laos/ Cambodia/ MyanmarEg.)ThailandDispatch Lecturers10 states in ASEANCounterpart RecruitmentApplicationPayment of training implementation feeParticipating CompanyAMEICCAOTSPayment of training implementation feeImplementing companyDispatch Lecturers/Prepare training materialsCooperate withImplementingcompany to decidetraining themeA case of this trainingOur industrial human resource development by third-country training takes place as seminar-type assembly training for such topics as 5S and Kaizen where AOTS dispatches instructors from other ASEAN member countries to 8 states in the ASEAN region. For two years, from scal 2016 to scal 2017, AOTS organized training courses on such subjects as 5S, Kaizen, Productivity Enhancement as well as Logistics Management in ve cities in Lao PDR, Cambodia and Myanmar.
