HIDA JOURNAL14Since FY2008, HIDA has offered a six-month long Japanese language course to the candidates arrived in Japan from Indonesia and the Philippines on the Training Program under Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) for Nurse and Certied Care Worker Candidates. In FY2016, HIDA offered the course at four locations in Japan, as presented in the table below, between June and December. One of the unanticipated difculties that face the candidates is now to overcome the freezing Japanese winter. The early morning and late afternoon chills again started in October this year, troubling the candidates with the problem of how to prepare for winter. It was then when the Japan Indonesia Association, Inc. (JAPINDA) again donated over 200 boxes of winter clothes for the 278 candidates from Indonesia and 60 candidates from the Philippines, who were undergoing nurses or long-term care worker training at one of the three venues: Tokyo Kenshu Center, Kansai Kenshu Center or Chubu Ofce. The delivered boxes of clothes were brought into the gym, lecture hall or a large classroom and opened by the candidates, who then chose the right clothes for them. They smiled at the sight of them having fun choosing clothes, with eyes sparkling, and felt their joy. They also received donation from Lotte Holdings, a corporate member of JAPINDA, of 58 boxes of kairo pocket hand-warmers and chocolate. The candidates will move to regions and start working at respective facilities after completing the program. There will be many times they wish to warm their hands and body. We believe those kairo will bet a full use.Two candidates, Ms. Tice Putri and Mr. Arin Nur Try Wardana visited JAPINDA Chairman Mr. Yasuo Fukuda on December 12, 2016, to express the Indonesian candidates’ gratitude on their behalf. All parties enjoyed the opportunity to exchange friendship.Meanwhile, HIDA received the rst donation of winter clothes from the Philippine Society of Japan this year. The donation was for the 274 certied care worker candidates from the Philippines, who were staying at a third party facility in Yokohama. We invited President Makoto Katsura of the said Society, who is a former ambassador to the Philippines, to visit the Yokohama facility in October. There held a ceremony to present the donation and lunch function for exchange. The participants included 18 representative candidates and Tetsuji Kawakami, Director of the Board of HIDA in charge of EPA projects. Soon, the candidates wore the donated clothes to attend the tour of Mt. Fuji in mid-October. They were delighted to receive three more subsequent deliveries. We would like to use this opportunity to express our gratitude for the donation from Japan Indonesia Association and the Philippine Society of Japan, which warmed the candidates physically as well as their hearts. Thank you so much.Donation of winter clothes from Japan Indonesia Association and the Philippine Society of Japan for EPA candidatesVisit to thank Japan Indonesia AssociationFrom left: Mr. Kuwayama, President of HIDA, Ms. Putri, Mr. Fukuda, Chairman of JAPINDA, Mr. Wardana, Mr. Kaneko, Advisor of HIDA, and Mr. Nishida, former Councilor of JAPINDADonation ceremony in YokohamaMr. Katsura, President of The Philippine Society of Japan in centerProgramTraining LocationsIndonesiaPhilippinesNurse candidatesCertied Care Worker candidatesNurse candidatesCertied Care Worker candidatesTokyo Kenshu Center—30——Kansai Kenshu Center464260—Chubu Ofce (Toyota)—160——Third party facility (Yokohama)———274Total4623260274
