HIDA JOURNAL12NEWSThe commemorative ceremony marking the 25-year anniversary of the Nepal AOTS Alumni Society (NAAS) and the commemorative event marking the 60-year anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Nepal hosted by NAAS were held at a hotel in Kathmandu City for two days from July 29 to July 30, 2016.Activities of NAAS, which have been steadily carried out for over 25 years, have been highly appreciated not only by Nepalese but also by Japanese communities in Nepal. Key Cabinet Ministers including Hon. Mr. Kamal Thapa, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Parliamentary Vice-Minister, and Minister of Communications, Ambassador of Embassy of Japan in Nepal, President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, President of Japanese Language Teachers’ Association Nepal (JALTAN), and President of Japanese Association attended the ceremony. Also, Mr. Joji Tateishi, Senior Managing Director of HIDA and Dr. Hussain, Honorary Advisor of Bangladesh AOTS-HIDA Alumni Society (BAAS) and Chattagram AOTS Alumni Society (CAAS) attended from Japan and Bangladesh, a neighboring country.In recent years, students studying in Japan from Nepal have been increasing rapidly. The number of students from Nepal last scal year was the third largest after China and Vietnam. The number of Japanese schools in Nepal has also been increasing signicant-ly. However, there have been issues in the quality of edu-cation and life after coming to Japan. Expectations for Japan have been more and more increasing in Nepal that has been on a path towards the recovery from the earthquake occurred in April last year. Under these circumstances, it is expect-ed that NAAS, which has been active as Japanophiles through training experience in Japan, will further develop as a good advisor in Nepal with its 25-year history.My name is Yoshitaka Yamamuro and I have been assigned to the new representa-tive of Bangkok Ofce. I joined the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in 2006, and had engaged in various systems and policies including the corporate tax system, information pol-itics, environmental policies, and contents industry policies. Since the eld of Asian trade and commerce policies is new to me, I will make every effort to work on the eld while learning from the beginning.My main tasks other than HIDA’s programs are: The formation of industrial visions and policies in ASEAN countries and the realization of the formation with the support of the Japanese government to produce win-win national interests of ASEAN countries and Japan. Due to these policymaking functions, I concurrently serve as the representative of AMEICC Secretariat.As a specic example of our activities, we held “The 9th Mekong-Japan industry government dialogue” with the participation of foreign dignitaries. I acted as host to the dialogue. During the dialogue, there were appreciation and expectations for AMEICC supplementary programs related to HIDA’s industrial human resource development. The results of the dialogue are scheduled to be reported at the ASEAN Economic Ministerial Meeting—Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (AEM-METI) held in Laos in August.Together with very cheerful and positive staff members at Bangkok Ofce, we would like to effectively carry out these our missions.My name is Hayato Tanaka and I have been assigned to the representative of Jakarta Ofce since May 2016. Indonesia is my third overseas country where I work in. Although I am getting used to working overseas, I have exciting days in the new environment.Jakarta Ofce is a small ofce where there are one Japanese staff member and ve Indonesian staff members. We have busy days to respond to inquiries from user companies and to coordinate and carry out various training programs. All the Indonesian staff members have performed their duties having a sense of responsibility for the develop-ment of Indonesian industry and becoming a bridge between Indonesia and Japan. Since the head ofce of HIDA-AOTS Alumni Societies is located in Jakarta Ofce, we carry out activities very closely with each other. For example, staff members of HIDA participate in events hosted by the HIDA-AOTS Alumni Societies and we cooperate in programs of HIDA Research Institute. Jakarta Ofce is also assigned to AOTS Alumni Society of Singapore and Persatuan Alumni AOTS Malaysia. As with Himpunan Alumni AOTS-HIDA Indonesia (HAAI)-Jakarta Central Board, we have been working on human resource development of the countries in cooperation with one another.The topic of Jakarta Ofce of this scal year is the setting up of the endowed course at Darma Persada University (covered in page 11 of this journal). Through collaboration with a cooperative organization, the Jakarta Japan Club, and local Japanese compa-nies, Jakarta Ofce aims to open the “Production Automation Engineer Course” at Darma Persada University and to produce human resources meeting requirements of local Japanese companies.I always think that human resource development is like agriculture.
