HIDA Journal 2016 AUTUMN No.9

11No. 9 AUTUMN 2016Due to impacts by the increase in direct investments from Japan for the automobile-related industry and the electrical and electronic in-dustry, and the acceleration of globalization with the establishment of ASEAN Economic Community at the end of 2015, the competitive environment of the manufacturing industry in Indonesia has become increasingly severe. Under such circumstances, “Increase in produc-tivity” has been one of the most important managerial issues for both Indonesian and Japanese companies, and expectations for the devel-opment of engineers who clearly understand the idea of Japanese manufacturing have been increasing.AMEICC Secretariat has decided to set up the Production Automation Engineer Course in Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at UNSADA as the endowed course in order to produce engineers meeting requirements of the industries. HIDA, which bears the function of AMEICC Secretariat, will work on the opening of the endowed course through collabora-tion with UNSADA, local companies, and the Japanese government.Towards the promotion of mutual economic development be-tween Japan and ASEAN countries, the endowed course program aims to establish a system where participants in the course can nd a job with a Japanese company after graduating from university. We are working on the opening of the course under “All Japan structure” with the advice and support from Japanese companies belonging to the Jakarta Japan Club in terms of curriculum development and im-plementation of internship programs at Japanese companies. As a kickoff meeting of UNSADA endowed course pro-gram, AMEICC Secretariat/HIDA held a commemorative forum at UNSADA on July 28, 2016. At the forum, the president of UNSADA declared about willingness to reform towards the realization of the only “Monodzukuri* university” (*Monodzukuri means manufac-turing in Japanese) in Indonesia, and a local Japanese company, as the representative of support companies, cheered the implementation of reforms. As UNSADA will mark its 30th year of establishment this year, a commemorative ceremony was held in the morning on the same day hosted by UNSADA. Mr. Fukuda, President of Japan Indonesia Association, Inc. (JAPINDA) attended the commemora-tive ceremony and sent a message with expectation that UNSADA would become the symbol of a bridge between Indonesia and Japan. The industries have also great expectations on the industrial hu-man resource development program by the Indonesia’s rst Japanese “Monodzukuri university.” We, as AMEICC Secretariat /HIDA, will make efforts to respond to the expectations.AMEICC*1 Secretariat has implemented a program to develop human resources required in Japanese companies in ASEAN countries through lectures, internship programs, job fairs, etc. since April 2016 by setting up the endowed course at local university, etc. with the cooperation of Japanese companies in the countries. As the rst case of this program implemented in Indonesia, it has been decided that the endowed course is going to be set up at Darma Persada University*2 (UNSADA). The ideal human resources to be developed in the endowed course at UNSADA are “Industry-ready engineers who understand Japanese manufacturing and are able to respond to production automation for efcient production.” With the cooperation of local Japanese companies, the course will provide the Production Automation Engineer Course which includes an internship program and is scheduled to be implemented in a 3-year project. We will introduce how the endowed course was set up as well as the forum held at UNSADA in commemoration of the course.*1AMEICC stands for ASEAN Economic Ministerial Meeting—Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI) Economic and Industrial Cooperation Committee, which has been organized under the meeting of ministers of economy of ASEAN countries and Japan.*2UNSADA was established by Japan Graduate’s Association of Indonesia (PERSADA), which has been organized by students having experience in studying in Japan, as proof of gratitude for Indonesia and Japan. In addition to a faculty promoting Japanese language education, engineering faculty and other faculties are available.Introduction of a Program of ASEAN Economic Ministerial Meeting—Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI) Economic and Industrial Cooperation Committee (AMEICC)Setting Up the Endowed Course at Darma Persada University in IndonesiaGuests and lecturers at the forum (fourth from right: Mr. Shinya Kuwayama, President of HIDA)Darma Persada University
