HIDA Journal 2015 AUTUMN No.7
2/18

The Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association (HIDA) is a Japanese organization for HR development in developing countries that promotes technical cooperation through training, experts dispatch, and other programs. I would like to extend my warmest gratitude for the outstanding support we routinely receive from concerned parties in the relevant government ministries and agencies, industry, academia, local governments, and more. Last year was a pivotal year for HIDA in that it was the 55th anniversary since its establishment. This year, commemorative events will be held marking the 50-year anniversary since the establishment of the Philippine Alumni Society and the 30-year anniversary since the establishment of the Argentina Alumni Society from among the alumni societies comprised of ex-participants that have spread to 43 countries and 71 regions around the world. I would like to express my respect for the fact that ex-participants who have become Japanophiles and Japanologists through HIDA programs have continued to introduce Japanese technology and culture over several decades all over the world, while still holding exchanges with Japan. In addition, I would also like to offer my gratitude for the fact that these activities have been highly praised both within Japan and overseas as one of the outcomes from HIDA programs. In addition, this year HIDA is working on three new programs: (1) Program of Local Specialties in Japan to Global Market - Discovery of Attractive Resources through the Views of Overseas Experts, (2) GHC* Overseas Internships carried out as an independent program (its name was changed from the Business Experience in Newly Emerging Countries Program), and (3) Myanmar Business Development Support Services. The first is the Program of Local Specialties in Japan to Global Market, which dispatches foreign human resources with an interest in Japan throughout Japan; connects said human resources to Japanese communities; and promotes understanding of the differences in their respective knowledge, experiences, cultures, religions, preferences, and so on. This is done with the goal of revitalizing Japan’s local economies, and it is conducive to discovering local resources such as products, foods, services, and tourist attractions that would be well-received by overseas local markets, as well as developing new markets. The second is the GHC Overseas Internships, which is designed to deepen exchanges between Japanese and local companies. It does this by matching Japanese companies that are gathering information to consider expanding into overseas markets with local companies in newly emerging countries and the like that are looking to get in contact with Japanese companies, then dispatching young employees from Japanese companies to local companies as interns. The third is Myanmar Business Development Support Services, which provide services such as introducing partner candidate companies and providing information related to local businesses based on local information that harnesses local networks with the goal of performing business matching with Myanmar companies. These programs have been developed as programs that effectively utilize global networks based primarily around the alumni societies that have been an asset to HIDA programs for more than half a century, as well as overseas organizations, and more. Nowadays, with globalization advancing HIDA intends to continue proactively developing programs to contribute further to the sustainable development of Japan and the international community under our mission “To realize a world of “Co-Existence and Growing Together” through HR development.” I would like to ask you for your unwavering guidance and support in this. *Abbreviation for Global Human ConnectivityNameThe Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development AssociationAbbreviated name: HIDAEstablishedAugust 10, 1959 (date AOTS was established as a successor corporation following the merger)Activities Provides training for industrial human resources mainly in developing countries as well as dispatches experts mainly to developing countriesScale of operationsApproximately JPY 7,700,000,000 (budget for FY2015)1) Training Programs in Japan: 160 courses and 3,700 participants2) Overseas Training Programs: 40 courses and 1,200 participants3) Experts Dispatch Programs: 270 experts4) Internship Program: 160 interns1) Training Programs in Japan:178,453 (cumulative total as of FY2014)2) Overseas Training Programs:196,482 (cumulative total as of FY2014)3) Experts Dispatch Programs:8,164 (cumulative total as of FY2014)4) Internship Program:862 (cumulative total as of FY2014)Ofces1) Japan :Tokyo (Higashi-Ginza and Kitasenju) and Kansai (Osaka City)2) Overseas: Bangkok, Jakarta and New DelhiInaugural Message Association OverviewMr. Kazuo KanekoPresident(Photo: Mr. Katsumi Kurihara)Total number of participants/experts/interns
