HIDA Journal 2015 AUTUMN No.7
16/18

HIDA NEWS14 HIDA JOURNAL Since the establishment of the HIDA Research Institute (HRI) in April 2013, it has promoted Global Interface Japan, an interface project that links Japanese companies with overseas companies by using HIDA’s network of overseas industrial human resources. This is done based on the three pillars of information dissemination projects, overseas survey projects, and business exchange projects. Now that two years have passed, and the signs that an era of full- edged globalization is arriving are becoming more apparent, HIDA has defined the social role it should play as being one of global human connectivity (GHC* functions). So HIDA is aiming to expand its projects by harnessing its assets for HRI projects as well. ■GHC Overseas Internships Therefore, HIDA reorganized the structure of the projects carried out by HRI as shown in the figure on the right in order to have it oversee GHC functions with greater clarity. The Business Experience in Newly Emerging Countries Program, which is a project that is currently being implemented for which we have already received requests from several companies, was renamed the GHC Overseas Internships. In addition to custom-made programs, which accommodate current requests starting from scratch, we also plan to offer a new menu of options that include ready-made programs in which host institutions and the internship details will be set in advance, short programs that are similar to two-week study tours, and more. By using our global network, HIDA will propose internships that are deeply entwined with local industries, primarily local companies, in a variety of dispatch countries in ASEAN as well as South America and Africa. These can be used in combination with a variety of needs, such as global HR development, gathering local information, and forming local personal networks. ■Myanmar Business Development Support Services Moreover, recently Myanmar has been the focus of attention for companies from around the world, and Japan is no exception to this. The number of members for the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Yangon reached 200 companies in October 2014, doubling its members from 100 companies in May 2013 in a mere year and a half or so. What is more, the Thilawa SEZ, in which the Japanese government is taking a leading role in promoting its development, has partially opened and progress is being made on its second-stage construction work. HIDA, which has been promoting industrial HR development for more than half a century, particularly in the ASEAN region, under such an environment, considers it extremely important to proactively support the local expansion of Japanese companies and local business development. Based on this awareness, it held the Myanmar Industrial HR Development Seminar in Yangon in January 2015. As a follow-up to the results of this seminar, the next month in February the Myanmar Project Office was established in HRI, which began offering business development support services for Japanese companies expanding into Myanmar. This consists of two main services. The Local Business Introduction Service introduces partner candidate companies, such as local consignment producers, joint ventures, technical partners, and sales agents through HIDA’s extensive and reliable network in Myanmar. The Information Provision Service on Local Businesses provides the latest information in close connection with various different locals, including information on Myanmar’s investment climate and industrial zones and points to keep in mind when expanding into the country, as well as information on local life and business customs unique to Myanmar. In addition, we will also offer a variety of solutions to meet customer demands, such as report surveys and questionnaire surveys related to Myanmar, local inspection tours, providing information on exhibitions, training and seminars for local employees, Japanese language training, and internships for Japanese employees.
