HIDA JOURNAL 2014 SPRING No.4
2/28

Greetings for the New Year.In March 2012, the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) and Japan Overseas Development Corporation (JODC) were merged and the Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association (HIDA) was born. In April 2013, HIDA opened a new chapter as a general incorporated foundation. During that time, HIDA has received support from industry, academia, local communities and governments in Japan and overseas, including the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). With the enhanced collaborative effect of the merger, we have promoted technical cooperation through the development of industrial human resources. We are extremely grateful. As globalization advances in recent years, in order to take advantage of developing nations’ booming demand for infrastructure and thriving domestic markets for the economic growth of our country, Japanese business community is further expanding and strengthening overseas business presence. The public and private sectors are joining hands to strengthen the efforts for securing Japan’s national interests, while working with the international society to secure a stable supply of energy resources, realize a low carbon society and facilitate smooth trade investment activities through an economic partnership agreement.Last year, Tokyo was awarded to host the 2020 Olympic Games. As the Japanese culture of hospitality is attracting world’s attention, not only our manufacturing industry but also Japan’s service industry is expanding its business overseas. In addition to superb Japanese manufacturing technology, transfer of technology in premium Japanese services will also increase through human resource development to further strengthen an economic bond between Japan and other countries. In the light of such internal and external business environments, we will work toward the achievement of the mission “Co-Existence and Growing Together” by making full use of a rich human network we have built over the years, and devote ourselves to the training and experts dispatch programs for human resource development, which fulfill the needs of the times. We will appreciate your further support and encouragement in this new year.ChairmanMototsugu ItoNew Year’s AddressThe Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association Abbreviated name: HIDAAugust 10, 1959Provides training for industrial human resources mainly from developing countries as well as dispatches experts overseasApproximately 8.5 billion yen (fiscal 2013)1) Training Programs: 220 courses and 5,300 participants2) Experts Dispatch Programs: 330 expertsTraining Programs in Japan: 170,647 (cumulative total as of fiscal 2012) Overseas Training Programs: 192,727 (cumulative total as of fiscal 2012)Experts Dispatch Programs: 7,486 (cumulative total as of fiscal 2012)1) Japan: Tokyo (Higashi-Ginza and Kitasenju), Kansai (Osaka City), and Chubu (Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture)2) Overseas: Bangkok and Jakarta•Name•Establishment•Activities•Scale of operations•Total number ofparticipants/experts•OfficesAssociation Overview
